2 Location – Where is it? . Selinsgrove

3 Absolute location – the exact location on Earth (latitude and longitude)
400N, 760W 380 N, 1000W 390 N, 750W

4 Relative location – where something is located based on its environment (It uses something nearby to describe the location.) Pennsylvania is south of New York. Pittsburgh is southwest of Selinsgrove. Selinsgrove is 50 miles north of Harrisburg.

5 Relative Location – can use a nearby landmark
There is a Weis Market store next to the mall in Selinsgrove. The GNC store is beside Bonton’s main entrance at the mall. Walmart is across the highway from the mall.

6 Movement – How do people, goods and ideas move from one location to another?
Everything moves in some way. Goods or “stuff” move with trade and shipping Stores sell goods made in other places People or “us” – migrate and move with transportation People move for jobs….to get a better life Ideas or “what we think” – information passed along by people, stories, the internet, books, newspaper and television

7 Place – What is it like? Physical Place – Includes things about the physical features Examples: climate, weather, landforms, vegetation, animal habitats What does the land look like? Human Place – Includes features that are products of human interaction Examples: anything to do with culture such as religion, government, economy, lifestyles, population What is life like?

8 Human-Environment Interaction – How do people relate to the physical world?
This is what the environment offers to people. Example: Resources How can they change it to meet their needs? Irrigation, dams, pollution, growing crops, mining, recycle, plant trees…..

9 Regions – How is a place similar or different?
These are areas that have something in common. A place, location or idea is unique and has something to unify it. Continents – Asia, Africa, Australia, Antarctica, North America, South America, Europe Climate – polar, tropical, moderate Physical – desert, mountains, coal region Religion – Christianity, Islamic, Jewish
