Jones, Temple University, copyright protect, March 2006 Diversity Diversity is a term that simply refers to the variety of differences that exist between people Diversity is a term that simply refers to the variety of differences that exist between people –Physical (gender, race, disability, age, height, weight, etc.) –Cultural (religion, ethnicity, immigrant status, language capability, class, socioeconomic status, education level, professional background) –Functional (behavior patterns, response to authority) –Historical (inter-group relationships, political affiliation, action strategies, etc.)

Valuing Diversity –Managing Diversity is a style that successfully accesses and applies members distinctive characteristics to enhance productivity –tolerates or exploits difference –Valuing Diversity is appreciating and respecting differences without necessarily meaning to or knowing how to manage them
