2. Culture
Culture means the things that can be used to describe a group of people. It includes specific beliefs, traditions, music, styles of clothes, languages, holidays, and food.
People from different cultures live in the United States.

People in different parts of the world speak different languages, wear different clothing, and celebrate different holidays.

7. Diversity
When people come to America from other cultures, they bring their customs and traditions (beliefs, ideas, music, and other things that make them unique) with them.
Diversity means differences in culture.

8. Diversity
People in Virginia have diverse ethnic origins, customs, traditions and contribute to their communities by practicing the responsibilities of being a good citizen.

What customs and traditions (information and beliefs handed down from one generation to another) do you and you family have?

Citizens in the United States share some common customs and traditions.
Citizens have the responsibility to participate in voting to elect (choose) their government (the group of people who make laws and rules for a community).

Voters in Virginia’s cities and counties elect officials to make decisions for them in the state and local governments.
